There is always something happening at the Great Little Trains of Wales.

Here are just a few of the things that are going on in the near future. For a complete list of events for 2008 please click HERE.

Late May/Early June Events

  • Welsh Highland Railway (Caernarfon): Cwrw ar y Cledrau - Rail Ale Festival: 9th - 11th May 2008.
    Join us on the WHR (C) for the biggest ‘Cwrw ar y Cledrau / Rail Ale Festival’, yet!
    The annual festival, now in its 4th year, will be held at Dinas Goods Shed (near Caernarfon) over the weekend May 9-11.
    Television personality Arfon Haines Davies will officially open the festival and the event itself forms part of an exciting May events-timetable.
    The festival is organised by the ‘WHR Society/Cymdeithas Rheilffordd Eryri’ and will feature over 40 real ales and live music. We have also added a community orchestra to the schedule and invited local groups to bring their stalls, to highlight what is happening in the region.

    Friday (9th) pm: Music by ‘Gwibdaith Hen Fran’.
    Saturday (10th) am: Jazz music by ‘Rough Shunters’ and harp music to follow.
    Saturday 10th) pm: Music by ‘Y Moniars’.
    Sunday (11th) am: Community orchestra, choir and stalls.
    The festival includes ale specially brewed by Porthmadog award-winning microbrewery, ‘The Purple Moose Brewery’, and steam trains will take passengers from venue to venue through Snowdonia’s spectacular countryside
    We will again be working in conjunction with the following breweries- all within walking distance of our stations:
    ‘The Black Boy Inn’, Caernarfon.
    ‘The Snowdonia Parc Hotel’, Waunfawr.
    ‘The Goat Hotel’, Llanwnda;
    ‘The Newborough’, Bontnewydd.
    ...There will also be a regular shuttle train service between Caernarfon and Dinas over the weekend!
    * Entry is by purchase of a special drinks-glass on the day, at £3.
    *Tickets cost: Weekend Rovers: £20 adult; £18 concession. Day Rovers: £17.50 adult; £15.75 concession
    Members, other concessions and ‘Y Cerdyn’ holders travel at appropriate fares.

  • Welsh Highland Railway (Porthmadog): Teddy Bears Picnic
    May 31st. June 1st. 2008.


    Children go FREE if they bring a teddy bear to the railway. See if you can spot the bears hiding the Big Shed and win a prize.

    Watch out for Biggles the mischievous bear, who’ll be riding on the train.
